Bateman will run for re-election

By Nikita Biryukov, February 14 2019 3:12 pm

State Sen. Kip Bateman (R-Neshanic Station) intends to run for reelection in 2021, the four-term Senator told the New Jersey Globe Thursday.

“Absolutely, I plan on running for reelection,” Bateman said. “Obviously, we have to see what the new district looks like, but I still have work to accomplish in the senate. So, I’m definitely going to run for reelection.”

Batemen serves in one of only two districts in New Jersey with split representation. The 16th legislative district’s Assembly seats are held by Assemblymen Andrew Zwicker (D-South Brunswick) and Assemblyman Roy Freiman (D-Hillsborough).

If the district remained as it is through 2021’s reapportionment, Bateman would likely face a strong challenge for his seat.
