State Sen. Kristin Corrado (R-Totowa) is asking the state’s top law enforcement official to investigate a recording of Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop for electioneering at a polling location on Tuesday.

The New Jersey Globe released video footage of Fulop speaking to a voter standing next to a voting machine, with audio of the mayor saying “vote yes.”

“Failure to act on this matter sends the message that electioneering is now permitted in polling sites, Corrado wrote in a letter to Attorney General Gurbir Grewal..  “As I am sure you can appreciate, this is not the precedent that should be set for conduct as citizens exercise their right to vote without pressure.

Corrado, a former Passaic County Clerk, said that she was deeply concerned about this blatant disregard of the law and the sanctity of a polling site.”

“The statute is clear,” Corrado said.

  1. Electioneering is telling someone to vote for a specific candidate or handing out literature-he was doing neither one. He was having a conversation with a resident who “supposedly” didn’t understand the question and when told in words he understood the resident then realized to vote yes. The questions on a voting ballot purposely are misleading-sometimes a yes vote is saying you don’t want the bill to pass or your no vote may mean you are agreeing with vote. So to me the Mayor is affirming yes, Your Yes Vote is what you want. So Senator Corrado instead of sending people to Video tape other politicians why don’t you better serve your constituents and stop engaging in this ridiculous behavior.
