Rice Tribute: Mikie Sherrill

Rep. Mikie Sherrill released the following statement on the death of former State Sen. Ronald Rice:

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and beloved New Jersey leader Ronald Rice.

“Senator Rice dedicated his life to serving our country — first as a young Marine during the Vietnam War, then as a Newark police officer, city councilman, deputy mayor, and finally as a state senator.

“During his nearly four decades of public service in the New Jersey Senate, Senator Rice was a leading voice on issues of equality in our justice system, schools, and community at large.

“Since I first entered Congress, Senator Rice was a great partner to me. I knew I could always count on him for the truth and good advice. I extend my condolences to his family. His memory will live on and his impact will be felt across New Jersey for years to come.”
