Former Nutley Mayor Peter Scarpelli has passed away.  He was 81.

Scarpelli served as a Nutley Commissioner form 24 years.

When he retired in 2004, his eat was won by his son, Joseph Scarpelli, a former Essex County freeholder.

“I am saddened by the passing of Peter Scarpelli. He was a dedicated family man and devoted to his hometown of Nutley as a longtime Commissioner and Mayor,” said Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo.  “Essex County also benefited from his expertise as a member of our Planning Board and past member of our public works staff. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Nutley Commissioner Steve Rogers says that Scarpelli was a Nutley treasure.

“Peter Scarpelli was a gentleman who was well respected not only in Nutley, but throughout our entire state,” Rogers said.  “He will be missed.”
