Passaic County Commissioner John Bartlett released the following statement on the death of Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver:
“Khyati and I are shocked and deeply sad to learn of Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver’s passing. She was a great friend, mentor, and partner on the issues that mattered to our common constituents — in Clifton when she was an Assemblywoman and Speaker, and across Passaic County when she rose to become our state’s first African American Lieutenant Governor. That was only the last of many glass ceilings she broke over a remarkable, decades-long career in public service — always with good humor and a deep commitment to working with all kinds of people. Her death is a loss for every New Jerseyan. May her family and friends be comforted in their grief, and may her example continue to inspire generations of public servants.”
