Jude DeLane, who spent 20 years as a personal assistant and district office aide to U.S. Senator Clifford P. Case of New Jersey, died on February 14 after a long fight with pulmonary fibrosis.  He was 80.

DeLane worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 and then owned home building companies in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

He was the father of Michael J. DeLane, a Newark firefighter who died in the line of duty in 1994.  He was just 33 when he was electrocuted while touching a downed power line while attempting to rescue a bedridden woman during a fire.

His brother, Gerald DeLane, was an assistant to former U.S. Secretary of Labor James P. Mitchell during the 1961 gubernatorial campaign.  Jerry DeLane also worked with the Operating Engineers and was an unsuccessful candidate for an Essex County State Assembly seat in 1965.  He ran on a ticket with Bob Yudin, who later became the Bergen County Republican Chairman.

DeLane is survived by his sons Jude Jr. and David, and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Tuesday at the Tuttle Funeral Home in Randolph.  A Funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday at the St. Therese Parish in Succasunna.  The DeLane family has asked that donations be made to the St. Barnabas Medical Center Burn Center.
