Alan Pogarsky, a former Superior Court Judge, died on August 2. He was 81. Pogarsky served as an Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor and Deputy New Jersey Attorney General and was president of the Ocean County Bar Association in 1972 and 1973. Gov. Christine Todd Whitman nominated him to the bench in 1996 and he served there until his retirement in 2008.
Philip Wiser, the Middlesex County campaign chairman for Tom Kean’s 1977 gubernatorial campaign, died on August 2. He was 93. A World War II veteran, Wiser served on local zoning boards in Old Bridge and Metuchen and was the Metuchen Republican Municipal Vice Chairman in the 1970s.
Marion Consalvi, a longtime Camden County Democratic Committeewoman, died on August 2. She was 94. She is a former president of the West Berlin Senior Citizens Club.
Daniel Van Mater, who served nine years as a member of the New Jersey State Fish and Game Commission, died on July 23 while on vacation in Hungary. He was 82. Van Mater also served as president of the Burlington County Federation of Sportsmen.
Bob Cobane, who served as a Whippany Fire Commissioner from 1985 to 2015, died on August 1. He was 73.
Nancy Nolan, a member of the Democratic Club of South Belmar, passed away on August 1. She was 89.
Bette Schmid, a member of the Monroe Township (Middlesex) Democratic Club, died on July 31. She was 92. Schmid was the leader of a bid to get Monroe Township their own post office.
