Former Judge, 50-year Essex Democratic leader, die

Robert Foley, a former municipal court judge for six Somerset county municipalities, passed away on March 2.  He was 77.  Foley worked as an assistant dean at Montclair State University and as registrar at Middlesex County College before getting his law degree at age 32.  He later served as township attorney for Branchburg and as municipal court judge in Bridgewater, Bedminster, Peapack-Gladstone, Manville, Raritan and South Bound Brook.

Max Manshel, a former deputy mayor of West Orange, died on March 3.  He was 90.  Manshel, who graduated law school at age 49, served as a planning board member and planning board attorney in West Orange, and spent more than fifty years as a Democratic county committeeman in West Orange.
