Amelia Zuccarelli, the former First Lady of Middlesex Borough, died on March 28. She was 103.
Her husband, Joseph P. Zuccarelli, was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Borough Council in 1950. Zuccarelli was elected mayor in 1955, defeating Democrat William Klein with 65% of the vote. He did not seek re-election in 1957.
Amelia Zuccarelli was known as “the women behind the man” during their 76 years of marriage. Both remained active in their community into the present decade.
Joseph Zuccarelli passed away in 2012 at age 98.
