Patricia Scott, a former Butler councilwoman and school board member, passed away on December 15, 2018 after years of battling a series of health issues. She was 67.  Memorial services will be held on March 24 at the Butler VFW.

A Democrat, Scott won a council seat as an independent in 1985, defeating Republican Joseph Falkoski by six votes; she ran 290 votes ahead of Democrat Charles Emering.  She was the top vote-getter when she sought re-election in 1988.

Scott was the Democratic candidate for State Assembly in the 26th district in 1991, losing to incumbents Robert Martin (R-Morris Plains) and Alex DeCroce (R-Parsippany) by nearly 22,000 votes.

The same year, she lost her bid for a third term in 1991 by a 2-1 margin against Republicans John Iannacone and James Lampmann.

Trish Morris-Yamba
, a former president of the Newark Public Library, died on March 8.  She was the wife of former Essex County College president Dr. A. Zachary Yamba.
