Emily Hornaday, former Trenton Times reporter, dies at 65

Nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her coverage of Medicare fraud

Emily J. Hornaday, a respected former journalist who was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her reporting on Medicare fraud while working for the Trenton Times, died on January 11.  She was 65.

She died after a six-month illness at the Spring Hills Post Acute Care facility in Hamilton.

After leaving the newspaper, she served as a spokesperson for the New Jersey Attorney General’s office and the state Division of Criminal Justice.   She also worked as a Mercer County public information officer.  Hornaday was diagnosed with Lupus many years ago and necessitaed her retirement in 2001.

Hornaday moved to New Jersey in 1988 after working for two newspapers in California.  She had received a journalism degree from California State University, Chico.

She is survived by her stepmother in California.
