Dorothy Burger, the Republican State Committeewoman from Union County, died today.  She was 70.

Burger served as a county committeewoman from Summit since 1988, is a former Summit Republican municipal vice chair.  She has served as a state committeewoman since 2013.

In 2020, Burger agreed to be her party’s candidate for Union County sheriff, an unwinnable race in a county that hasn’t elected a Republican since 1995.  Incumbent Peter Corvelli defeated her by 35 percentage points.

Her years of service to the Republican Party and her tremendous volunteer spirit undoubtedly will serve as a shining example to future generations. In particular, we recall with gratitude the many ways in which she served her hometown of Summit with pride,” said GOP State Chairman Bob Hugin, a Summit resident. “As we remember her life filled with joy and purpose, we pray for her family and friends, who will miss her dearly.”
