With the pandemic on the wane and most virus-related travel restrictions lifted, a gubernatorial vacation may be on the horizon.
“I sure hope to take a vacation,” Gov. Phil Murphy said at Monday’s virus briefing. “No news on that yet, but I sure as heck hope to.”
Murphy has eschewed vacations during the pandemic, but that hasn’t been the case over the entirety of his first term in office.
In previous years, he and his family made trips to Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, East Africa, Germany and Italy. Most often, those vacations happen in the Summer months, though some have occurred in other portions of the year.
If he plans a getaway this year, it’ll most likely happen in July or August, before his re-election campaign against former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli kicks into full public view.
Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver helmed the state while Murphy was on vacation. That was also true in the early months of the pandemic, when the governor was recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from one of his kidneys.
