First Lady Tammy Murphy was in Essex County on Wednesday night to attend a fundraiser for Assemblyman Mila Jasey (D-South Orange), one of the legislators most supportive of Gov. Phil Murphy’s legislative agenda.

Jasey is seeking re-election to a seventh term in the State Assembly from the strongly-Democratic 27th district.  She was re-elected in 2017 by 17,686 votes.

The South Orange Democrat has already endorsed the governor’s proposal to increase taxes on residents making more than $1 million annually, a significant move for a Democratic legislator who represents a suburban Essex and Morris district that includes Short Hills, Livingston, Madison, Chatham and Harding.

First Lady Tammy Murphy speaks at a fundraiser on May May 15, 2019 for Assemblywoman Mila Jasey.  Former Gov. Richard Codey is standing to the right of Murphy.
