Gov. Mikie Sherrill has raised a massive $6.5 million for her Mission to Deliver PAC and her non-profit Mission to Deliver organization, a significant fundraising benchmark that tops those of her last two predecessors, Phil Murphy and Christopher Christie.
Mission to Deliver, Inc, her 501(c)(4), has raised $5,314,257 and $5,091,208 cash-on-hand.
The PAC has raised $1,185,702 and $1,002,515 in the bank. The PAC still has another five days to raise money before the end of the second quarter.
The combined available financial resources are nearly $6.1 million.
The money will boost Sherrill’s standing at home and nationally as she seeks to advance her New Jersey political agenda and Sherrill play a national role in electing Democratic governors and majorities in Congress in the upcoming midterm elections.
501(c)(4) social welfare organizations do not have to list donor names on their Internal Revenue Service filings unless they engage in specific electioneering or independent political expenditures. PAC donors are filed with the Federal Election Commission; the next report is due on July 15.
“MTD Inc. will follow the law. MTD Inc.’s main function is to advocate on public policy issues, including those that align with Mikie Sherrill’s agenda,” said Jennifer Holdsworth, the Mission to Deliver chair.
In March, the New Jersey Globe reported major donors to Sherrill’s PAC, which were heavily dominated by labor unions, led by $205,000 from IBEW PACs: $90,000 contribution from the New Brunswick-based IBEW Local 456, the trade union led by former Assemblyman Joseph Egan (D-New Brunswick) and his son, Assemblyman Kevin Egan (D-New Brunswick); $90,000 from the IBEW Local 164 in Paramus; and $25,000 came from the IBEW Education PAC in Washington.
Sherrill’s PAC also received $5,000 from the Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck PAC – that’s the law firm of Rosemary Becchi, Sherrill’s GOP opponent in 2020 and a candidate for Republican state chair last year.
