Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) has raised $1.36 million for her campaign to become the Democratic nominee for governor during her first six weeks in the race, and began 2025 with over $1 million cash-on-hand.
The four-term congresswoman qualified for matching funds one day after entering the race on November 18 after a monstrous $600,000 haul.
“New Jersey is ready for a different kind of leadership in Trenton, and we’re encouraged by the groundswell of support and excitement that we’ve seen for Mikie on the campaign trail in these first few weeks,” said Sherrill’s campaign manager, Alex Ball. “As this race begins in earnest, Mikie is going to be traveling the state, sharing her fresh perspective for New Jersey’s future, and building the broad coalition it takes to win races.”
New Jersey’s gubernatorial public financing program matches every dollar raised with two additional dollars beyond a $185,000 one-time deductible. That means Sherrill will be eligible to receive roughly $2.35 million in matching funds, potentially bringing her total number to $3.71 million.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Tenafly) raised $1.66 million during the first six weeks of his gubernatorial campaign. He and Sherrill had to wait until after their congressional re-election campaigns were over to begin their statewide races.
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop raised enough to qualify for the full match in April 2023.
Former Senate President Steve Sweeney has raised almost $2.5 million. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka has brought in $1.146 million for his gubernatorial bid.
A sixth candidate, former New Jersey Education Association President Sean Spiller, has not yet announced his fourth quarter fundraising numbers.
Republican Jack Ciattarelli $2.935 million for his campaign for the Republican nomination for governor, enough to qualify for the full match.
