Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) won a race for freshman class representative on the House Democratic leadership team this morning, defeating Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair).
The position became available following the resignation of Rep. Katie Hill (D-California) last month.
Sherrill, who flipped New Jersey’s 11th district seat after 34 years of a Republican congressman, advanced as one of the two finalists for the post.
Two other congresswomen, Susie Lee (D-Nevada) and Lauren Underwood (D-Illinois) were also in the race.
