Democratic gubernatorial candidate Sean Spiller is up on the air with a new ad saying he’s “pissed off” by President Donald Trump’s scare tactics.
In “Bully,” Spiller narrates his own ad, promising to prioritize affordable housing, healthcare, early education, and childcare.
“We don’t need a Governor who is bought and paid for by the insiders and the corporate special interests,” Spiller stated. “We need a Governor who is strong enough to stand up to bullies like Donald Trump, and who will never back down when New Jersey families are being threatened. That’s what I’ve done my whole life, and that’s exactly what I’ll do as your Governor.”
Script: “As I stand before you right now, we’ve got a President of the United States trying to scare folks, go after folks, divide folks. And I don’t know about you, but I’m pissed off. We need somebody who knows how to stand up to a bully. That’s what I’m ready to do. So, I’m asking you, are you ready to fight? Are you ready to stand up? Because we’ve got to make sure we’ve got housing that’s affordable. We’ve got to address healthcare. We’ve got to make sure we’ve got quality early education and childcare. That is why I’m asking you to stand with me right now as I run to be the next governor of New Jersey.”
“As a teacher, immigrant, and father of two, I’ll never stop fighting for the hard working people who are all too often left behind in Trenton and Washington D.C,” said Spiller. “From the costs of health care to affordable housing, we need to take bold actions to make New Jersey affordable again. Politicians who are bought and paid for by Wall Street, developers, and corporate interests won’t do that. I will.”
Spiller is the president of the New Jersey Education Association, the state’s largest public employees’ union. A science teacher, Spiller is a former mayor of Montclair.
He faces Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-Tenafly) and Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), and former Senate President Steve Sweeney in the June 10 Democratic primary. Two-term Gov. Phil Murphy is term-limited.
