Gov. Phil Murphy ordered flags in the state down to half mast on Monday to honor recently-late U.S. Sen. John McCain.
“An American hero, Senator McCain fiercely championed bipartisan efforts in the Senate and, regardless of party, he always strived to put our country first,” Murphy said. “The nation has lost a hero, but his guiding light will last for generations. We offer our condolences to the McCain family during this difficult time.”
On Friday, McCain’s family announced the senator was stopping his cancer treatments. He died on Saturday. He was 81.
