The Engineers Labor-Employer Cooperative celebrated Gov. Phil Murphy for approvals the governor gave to toll increases on the state’s three major freeways last month.
“We thank Governor Murphy for his leadership in approving both the NJTA and SJTA capital plans,” ELEC Director Mark Longo said. “The Governor’s decision will improve critical infrastructure for New Jerseyans and help stimulate our economy as we begin recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Murphy approved toll hikes passed by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and The South Jersey Transportation Authority the same day they were passed last month.
The hikes were supported by construction unions and opposed by conservationists and commuters.
“In addition to creating thousands of jobs in construction, the ripple effects will be felt far and wide throughout the state as we build our way to economic growth,” Longo said. “We look forward to working together to make these improvements a reality and rebuild New Jersey.”
