Gloucester GOP line goes to Ciattarelli

Ex-Assemblyman carried Gloucester without the line in 2017, beating Guadagno by 16 votes

Gloucester County Republicans awarded their organization line to gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli on Thursday, GOP County Chair Jacci Vigilante has announced.

“Now that the gubernatorial primary field is set it is time for all of us to pull in the same direction to defeat Phil Murphy,” said Vigilante “We agree with our partners in Camden, Jack Ciattarelli is the best candidate in the race, and he will make Phil Murphy one and done in ’21.”

Gloucester had been expected to go with Ciattarelli anyway, but the unexpected withdrawal of former Republican State Chairman Doug Steinhardt on January 11 appears to be clearing the field organizationally for the ex-Assemblyman from Somerset County.

Ciattarelli carried Gloucester County in the 2017 gubernatorial primary by 16 votes over then-Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, even though Guadagno had the organization line.

While Ciattarelli has county chairman endorsements in 12 counties, Camden and Gloucester are the only GOP organizations to formally award their line so far.

Vigilante said that Gloucester and Camden have 118,000 registered Republicans combined.

“Now, with the progressive wing of the Democrats feeling more empowered than ever, it is vitally important for the region’s 118,000 Republicans to unite and work to elect Republicans up and down the ticket while helping Jack Ciattarelli stop Phil Murphy from fulfilling his promise of making New Jersey the California of the east coast,” Vigilante stated.
