Hudson County lawmaker backs Fulop for governor

State Sen. Angela McKnight (D-Jersey City) has endorsed Steve Fulop for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2025.

“I’ve worked closely with Mayor Fulop throughout my tenure in the state legislature and I believe 100% that he’s the best candidate for governor,” McKnight said.  “I’m excited to not only continue supporting Steve’s campaign but to also take on a leadership role helping him organize in Hudson County and reach out to Democratic voters with his message of progressive leadership and honest, transparent government.”

McKnight’s endorsement is no surprise: she was Fulop’s pick for the 31st district State Senate seat after it became clear that incumbent Sandra Cunningham (D-Jersey City) would not seek a sixth term last year.

Fulop has the backing of Assemblywoman Barbara McCann Stamato (D-Jersey City), but the other 31st district incumbent, William Sampson (D-Bayonne), has not yet announced his choice.

Last week, Fulop four members of the Hudson Assembly delegation would run on Fulop’s slogan if the new Democratic county chairman, County Executive Craig Guy, didn’t offer the HCDO slogan to him.
