First Lady Tammy Murphy, accompanying Gov. Phil Murphy and a Choose NJ delegation on an economic development-focused trip through Ireland, visited University College Cork’s Irish Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research (INFANT) today, furthering her own focus on maternal healthcare in New Jersey. During the visit, the INFANT Centre and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority also signed a memorandum of understanding for future research collaboration.

First Lady Murphy – echoing a common theme throughout the Irish trip of similarities between Ireland and New Jersey – said in a statement that both parties stand to learn from one another on the issue of maternal health.

“The INFANT Centre is tackling maternal and infant health issues in a creative and innovative way,” she said. “Their model is something we can learn from as we develop the Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Center in Trenton, and we hope INFANT can benefit from our experience as well.”

Prior to her visit at the INFANT Centre, Murphy met with a STEM school group in Cork; she has also joined her husband in a number of meetings and roundtables throughout the trip.

Meanwhile, Governor Murphy spent the early afternoon at a lunch hosted by the Cork Chamber of Commerce and on a tour of the wider University College Cork campus. Today marks the final day of Murphy’s three-day visit to Ireland, which has included a number of cultural stops and economic development announcements.
