Jack Ciattarelli scored a humungous 87% win at the Bergen County Republican convention tonight, defeating favorite son Mario Kranjac, the former Englewood Cliffs mayor, 492-66, a 75-point margin.

Bill Spadea, Jon Bramnick, and Ed Durr did not participate in the Bergen convention.

A third candidate, Hackensack resident Monica Brinson, received 12 votes (2%).

In the race to pick three county commissioner candidates, Second Amendment activist Jay Costa (506), Demarest Councilwoman Andrea Slowikowski (483), and Mahwah school board member John Dinice (437) defeated Linda Barba (158) and Armen Azarnia (92).   A sixth candidate, Andrew Meehan, a math teacher and U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq, dropped out of the race this week and instead will seek the Republican nomination for State Assembly in the 37th district.

Four-term Republican State Committeeman Benedict Focarino lost his bid for re-election by 48 votes, 278-230, to former Upper Saddle River Councilman Vincent Durante.    A recent change in the law allows county committee members to select members of the State Committee for a four-year term rather than put the office on the ballot.
