Tom Kean, Jr. easily won the Union County Republican organization line on Wednesday, scoring his second victory of the 2022 convention season in his bid for a rematch against Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) in New Jersey’s 7th district.
Kean received 115 votes, with Jon Henry Isemann getting 14 votes. No votes were cast for Assemblyman Erik Peterson, Phil Rizzo or the other three GOP candidates.
Kean won the Hunterdon Republican convention after defeating Peterson on the second ballot. He also has the endorsement of the Warren County GOP.
Morris County Republicans will return to vote this week after voting machine difficulties pre-empted a second ballot showdown between Kean, the former minority leader of the New Jersey State Senate, and Isemann, a 27-year-old first-time candidate who left his Wall Street career to lead a humanitarian mission to Guatemala.
The Somerset County GOP convention is set for next week.
