Republican Jack Ciattarelli has outraised Gov. Phil Murphy for the fourth consecutive week, according to the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.
Still, the Democratic incumbent has received $1,969,514 more than Ciattarelli.
Ciattarelli qualified for $866,186 in public matching fund, with Murphy getting $761,076.
Murphy has received a total of $10,239,277 in matching funds so far, 98% of the $10.5 million maximum amount. He needs to raise another $86,907 to qualify for the full match.
Public financing has netted Ciattarelli $8,296,763 so far, representing 79% of the total available to him. He needs to raise another $734,412 to max out on matching funds.
As a condition of taking part in the public financing program, which gives them $2 for every $1 raised – less a $156,000 deductible – both candidates have agreed to a $15.6 million spending limit. That number does not apply to state and national political party spending on their behalf – or any independent expenditures.
