The race for control of the Somerset County Board of Freeholders remains too close to call former Green Brook Mayor Melonie Walsh holding a razor-thin lead Republican incumbent Pat Walsh.
With 261 of 265 districts reporting, Marano leads Walsh by 250 votes, 34,652 to 234,402.
An undetermined number of provisional ballots not yet counted. Vote-by-mail ballots postmarked today have until close of business Thursday to arrive at the Board of Elections.
261 of 265 districts have reported results, with results still not in for single districts in Bound Brook, Franklin, Hillsborough and Warren.
Republicans have a 3-2 majority on the freeholder board.
Democrat Darrin Russo was elected Somerset County Sheriff, defeating Republican Bill Parenti for the open seat of retiring GOP Sheriff Frank Provenzano.
Russo leads Parenti by 2,463 votes, 52%-48%.
