Passaic County Republicans voted 17-3 to award their organization line for State Senate to Holly Schepisi, who scored a 17-3 win this morning over incumbent Gerald Cardinale, an 86-year-old, 12-term incumbent.
Schepisi, 49, is challenging Cardinale for the GOP Senate nomination after serving five terms in the State Assembly.
There are three Passaic County municipalities in the 39th – Bloomingdale, Ringwood, and Wanaque – and makes up about 15% of the vote in a GOP primary.
“We are proud to endorse Holly Schepisi in her campaign for State Senate. Having represented us for nearly a decade as a member of the State Assembly, we have worked closely with Holly to grow our party, elect candidates on a local level, and serve the needs of our community,” said Peter Murphy, the Passaic County GOP Chairman. “While we appreciate Senator Cardinale’s over 40-years of dedicated public service, now is the time to move our party in a new direction.”
The next stop in the Schepisi vs. Cardinale race is the Bergen County Republican convention next month.
