The election of Daniel O’Connell to the Burlington County Board of Freeholders will trigger a special election in Delran Township, where he is the 2nd ward councilman.

There is no early front-runner for O’Connell’s seat.

“We don’t have that solid yet,” said Councilman Gary Catrambone, the Democratic municipal chairman. “The ink isn’t even dry on this one.”

The Delran Democratic County Committee will meet within the next couple of weeks to submit three names to the council as O’Connell’s replacement.

A November 2019 special election will be held to fill the remaining 38 months of O’Connell’s term.

Delran Democrats won all three council seats that were up in the 2018 general election and have a 5-0 majority on the council.  O’Connell was re-elected with 56% of the vote against Republican Anthony Ogozalek, Jr.

Catrambone said that O’Donnell will attend his final council meeting on Tuesday.
