Aisha Glover, who has played a key role in the bid to bring Amazon to Newark, has been named CEO of the Newark Alliance, a non-profit that supports the economic revitalization of the state’s largest city.

Glover served as president and EO of the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation..

“Having had the honor of working directly with Ms. Glover, including her spearheading our bid for Amazon’s HQ2, I can’t think of a better person to lead the Newark Alliance into the future,” said Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka. “I congratulate the Board and look forward to strengthening our partnership.”

Before coming to Newark, Glover was the vice president of external affairs for the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation.  She also spent eight years at Morgan Stanley.

“Aisha is a Newark rock star, and her commitment, experience, and record of achievement makes her the perfect leader to realize our vision of Newark as an economic engine for the region,” said Dennis Bone, the chairman of the Newark Alliance Board of Trustees.

The Newark CEDC will begin a search for Glover’s replacement.  Lyneir Richardson, the executive director of the Rutgers Newark Center for Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, will be the interim CEO.

“The Amazon HQ2 process revealed how well the corporate and anchor community can come together when there’s a clear goal,” said Aisha Glover. “I am excited to harness that same energy at the Newark Alliance and begin to implement a clear strategy that will create the greatest economic impact for Newark and our residents.”
