Kathleen Frangione, the chief policy advisor to Gov. Phil Murphy, is not interested in succeeding Pete Cammarano as chief of staff, three sources confirmed today.
A former aide to U.S. Senator John Kerry, Frangione had been mentioned as a possible replacement, both on an interim and permanent basis.
Murphy confirmed earlier this month that Cammarano would leave state government early next year.
No replacement has been named, and no front-runner for the post exists, according to several people familiar with the selection process.
Frangione had a temporary assignment earlier this year when she served as acting Commissioner of Environmental Protection when Catherine McCabe was out of the country for a month on personal business.
