Assemblyman Bob Andrzejczak (D-Middle) moved one step closer to the New Jersey State Senate today.
As expected, won the endorsement of the Cape May County Democratic organization for the seat vacated last week by Jeff Van Drew, who was sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday.
Andrzejczak was unopposed in Cape May and is unlikely to face any opposition among Cumberland County Democrats.
His real race will come in a November special election for the remaining 26 months of Van Drew’s term. The 1st legislative district leans Republican, although Democrats have held the Senate seat since Van Drew ousted incumbent Nicholas Asselta in 2007.
Cumberland County Republican Chairman Michael Testa is seeking the GOP nomination. He could face a primary from Samuel Fiocchi, a former assemblyman and freeholder from Vineland.
Andrzejczak, 32, has served in the Assembly since March 2013. He won the Purple Heart and Bronze star as a U.S. Army sergeant in Iraq.
