Cory Booker has won a key endorsement in South Carolina: the Charleston County Democratic chairman.
Brady Quirk-Garvan announced this morning that he was backing Booker for the Democratic presidential nomination. He is the first county chairman to endorse in the pivotal South Carolina primary.
Quirk-Garvan says he will step down from his post to actively work on Booker’s campaign.
“I think Cory Booker represents a younger generation, and he brings the same statesmanlike quality that Barack Obama did but with a lot more enthusiasm,” Quirk-Garvan said. “I think he’s someone who can speak to the base of the party, but also speak to moderates and independents.”
Charleston County produced the second-highest number of votes in the 2008 and 2016 Democratic presidential primaries.
