11th District Republicans talk education, crime, and energy in new ad

Republicans running in the competitive 11th legislative district released a new ad attacking their opponents on crime, education, and energy.

The ad, “Better Choice,” features Republican State Senate candidate Steve Dnistrian, Assemblywoman Marilyn Piperno (R-Colts Neck), and Assemblywoman Kim Eulner (R-Shrewsbury) sitting around a kitchen table, as a voice says they are better for Monmouth County on crime, education, and energy.

Their opponents – State Sen. Vin Gopal (D-Long Branch) and Assembly candidates Margie Donlon and Luanne Peterpaul – have their photos featured in the ad, and are described as out-of-touch with Monmouth County.

Script: “Gopal, Donlon, and Peterpaul don’t support Monmouth County values. They support radical policies that cut funding from schools and police, released violent criminals from jail early, and increased our energy bills by thousands every year. The better choice? Steve Dnistrian, Marilyn Piperno, and Kim Eulner – are on our side. They are fighting for tough-on-crime policies to keep us safe, fully fund schools and keep parents involved in the education and well-being of their children.”

With just under five weeks until this year’s legislative elections – where turnout is key – Republicans have increasingly focused on education and energy to motivate their base; it remains to be seen how those issues will fare against others, such as abortion access.

While it’s not clear how much money the GOP has put behind the ad, it did run during last night’s Phillies game in Monmouth County.

The 11th district Democrats have released several ads: one focused on public service, another on issues such as abortion access, affordability, and public safety, and another exclusively on abortion.
