Donald Trump’s biggest supporter in New Jersey today bemoaned the arraignment of the former President on charges that he paid hush money to a porn star during the 2016 campaign.
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) called Trump’s indictment a “sad day for our country.”
“Make no mistake that America’s enemies in Beijing and the Kremlin are once again laughing at us,” Van Drew said. “This is nothing more than a political witch hunt led by some half-assed local district attorney who has thoroughly, utterly, and completely failed to get criminals off the street and make New York City safer.”
The South Jersey Republican pledged to use his seat on the House Judiciary Committee “to get to the bottom of this political persecution and restore the rule of law.”
Van Drew appears unwavering in his support of Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
“I was proud to be the first member of Congress to endorse President Trump, who continues to have my total and complete support, and I am confident that the American people will see right through this political charade,” he said in a statement last week.
Trump turned himself in at the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg earlier this afternoon.
