U.S. Senate candidate suspended from State Police post

State Trooper Richard Tabor alleges that he was suspended to keep him out of race against Cory Booker

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Richard Tabor says he was suspended from his job as a New Jersey State Trooper on Wednesday.

“Basically got told that because I’ve decided to run for U.S. Senate, they want to suspend me from work for running,” Tabor said on a social media post.  “This is clearly a shot at me by the Democratic Party that runs the state of New Jersey, because they do not want me to go against Cory Booker.”

New Jersey 101.5 first reported Tabor’s suspension.  A State Police spokesman told the New Jersey Globe last month that Tabor was the subject of an internal investigation.

Tabor said he has no plans to back down.

“They are threatened by me. They are afraid. And they wanted to suspend me so that I would stop running for the people,” he said.  “But I got news for you guys. I’m not going to stop running this year. We’re going to get a win for the people.

The radio news report cited a former union official who said state troopers are not permitted to run for public office.

Tabor faces former News 12 New Jersey reporter Alex Zdan, former Tabernacle Deputy Mayor Justin Michael Murphy, and physician Robert Lebovics in the June 2 Republican primary for the chance to take on Booker.
