Cosgrove resigning Elizabeth police post

Announcement expected today

By David Wildstein, April 30 2019 3:33 pm

Elizabeth police director James Cosgrove will resign today, the New Jersey Globe has learned.

Cosgrove has been under fire for making racist and misogynistic comments to his staff after a two-month probe into the Elizabeth police department conducted by the Union County prosecutor’s office.

Attorney General Gurbir Grewal called on Cosgrove to resign, and announced on Friday that the prosecutor had taken over the Elizabeth police department’s internal affairs function.

It is not immediately clear who will replace Cosgrove.

Mayor Christian Bollwage will appointed the new police director.

Sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity say that Bollwage is unhappy with Gov. Phil Murphy, who was with him at an event in Elizabeth just before Grewal’s announcement but never gave him a heads-up about what was about to occur.

  1. Being a total biggot should be the least of his concerns. The man is as corrupt as they come. His sons are also cops and just as corrupt. They have hid it well for years. I hope someone digs deeper into all the lies and corruption has taken place over the last 20 years! He should get no pension! He got off easy
