The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund has endorsed Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-Paterson) for re-election in New Jersey’s 9th district, giving the 12-term congressman the backing of one of the nation’s premier environmental groups.
“Congressman Bill Pascrell is committed to fighting for healthy communities, creating good local jobs in the clean energy economy, and preserving New Jersey’s natural resources,” said Ed Potosnak, executive director for the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. “We are excited to continue working with him to ensure New Jersey is protected for future generations.”
This is Pascrell’s second major environmental group endorsement. The Sierra Club announced their support of his re-election bid last December.
Pascrell, a sponsor of the Green New Deal, praised the LCV for their commitment to preserving the environment for future generations.
“As Donald Trump and congressional Republicans continue to wage war on our planet, I will continue to side with science, advocate for clean energy solutions, and demand a Green New Deal for the American people,” Pascrell said. “Together with LCV, I take this responsibility on behalf of our children and their children. They deserve to inherit an earth free of catastrophic pollution and it is up to us today to provide it.”
Support from the LCV and the Sierra Club comes as Pascrell faces two challengers in the July Democratic primary.
Pascrell beat back a primary challenge from William O. Henry in 2018 with 86% of the vote.
