A super PAC run by allies of former Gov. Chris Christie have launched a new digital ad, “Roots,” in response to “Never Forget,” an ad that began airing this week in support of Democrat Bob Menendez’s campaign for re-election to the United States Senate.
“New Jersey voters should never forget Bob Menendez’s more than 25 failed and shamelessly corrupt years in Washington, D.C. It’s time to set the record straight – his actions have disgraced his office and our state,” said Integrity NJ Executive Director Pete Sheridan.
The ad begins with a clip from Menendez’s own ad, which features the Senator looking into the camera and saying “I never forgot my roots.”
Announcer: Is he kidding? Menendez flew on private jets. Stayed in five-star hotels. Helped people like these get visas. While wheeling and dealing to help a crook get away with defrauding taxpayers of millions.
It then repeats Menendez on camera: “I never forgot my roots.”
Announcer: “Yeah, you did. Big shot. You disgraced yourself, your state and the old neighborhood.”
Integrity NJ is run by Phil Cox and Sheridan. Cox was executive director of the Republican Governors Association when Christie was chairman of the group. He also headed America Leads, a super PAC founded to back Christie’s 2016. Sheridan was an aide to Christie.
