The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) New Jersey State Council endorsed Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) Wednesday.
“Throughout your career in public service, you have been a staunch ally of our members, their families, and communities. We trust you will advance the issues important to them at this especially critical time, when we are faced with two grave public health crises — the COVID-19 pandemic and vast racial inequity, SEIU New Jersey State Council president Milly Silva said in a letter to Pascrell.
The union, one of the largest in New Jersey, has roughly 23,000 members, either directly or through constituent unions.
“For my entire career I have been guided by an immutable truth: Working men and women built this country. I deeply value the friendship and support of the SEIU New Jersey State Council in this election and I will not let them down,” Pascrell said. “Our future too depends on them, and I am 100% dedicated to fighting for a progressive, ambitious agenda that helps organized labor survive and thrive for generations more to come.”
Two progressive primary challengers, Alp Basaran and Zina Spezakis, are also seeking the nod in the safely-Democratic ninth district.
