Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-Paterson) has won the endorsement of a major grassroots progressive group two weeks before he faces two Democratic primary challengers challenging him from the left.
BlueWaveNJ called Pascrell a “champion of our issues since we began fifteen years ago:
“He is also one of the most responsive congressional members to the needs of his constituents and a champion of the middle class,” BlueWaveNJ said in a statement. “Pascrell has been a vocal opponent of (Donald) Trump’s many illegal policies, including demanding that he turn over his tax returns to the committee.”
Pascrell is seeking re-election to a 13th term in Congress. He faces Zina Spezakis and Alp Basaran in the July 7 Democratic primary.
“As BlueWaveNJ works to reduce the racial wealth gap, create a more equitable tax system and achieve our dream of universal, affordable health care, we need experienced representatives like Congressman Pascrell working with us,” the group said.
The Passaic County Democrat said Congress now has the chance to enact “the most progressive Democratic platform since the Great Society.”
“Across the United States, millions are coming out into the streets and demanding a progressive agenda for America,” said Pascrell. “The world hears their calls loud and clear and I am acting with urgency because we don’t have one minute to waste.
