Former U.S. Department of State official Stephanie Schmid has picked up the endorsements of two more Democratic municipal chairs in her bid for the Democratic nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 4th district.
Josh Hodes of Sea Girt and Mike Mangan of Manasquan are backing Schmid in her bid to unseat 20-term Rep. Christopher Smith (R-Hamilton).
Asbury Park Democratic municipal vice chair Angela Ahbez-Anderson has also endorsed Schmid, along with the Rumson Democratic Committee.
“The reason I have decided to support Stephanie Schmid is simple: she has the talent, knowledge, and global experience to hit the ground running on day one as the next Congresswoman in CD-4,” said Ahbez-Anderson. “I’m confident that she will tackle the real-world issues facing our community members.”
The endorsements strengthen Schmid’s candidacy as she heads into the Monmouth County Democratic convention in March.
She faces primary challenges from retired journalist David Applefield and former United Nations staffer Christine Conforti.
Schmid drew criticism from progressive Democrats this week after endorsing Mike Bloomberg for president.
