Six independents have filed to run for United States Senator in the general election, with a 4 PM filing deadline that could allow more candidates to still join the race.
Two of the candidates, Libertarian Murray Sabrin and Green Party candidate Madelyn Hoffman, have run against each other before. In 1997, Sabrin finished third in the race for governor with 5% of the vote, while Hoffman came in fifth with .44%. The fourth place candidate in that race, Richard Pezzullo, is running unopposed today for the Republican nomination for Congress in the 6th district against Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr.
Also joining the race to take on, presumably, Democrat Bob Menendez and Republican Bob Hugin are: Hank Schroeder, Natalie Lynn Rivera, Kevin Kimple, and Tricia Flanagan.
