It looks like Albio Sires will get at least two more years in Congress. Hudson County Freeholder Tilo Rivas has decided not to challenge Sires in the Democratic primary, leaving Sires a out of the current Hudson County warette.
Rivas, 70, had been floated as a possible opponent to Sires. He is also a Union City Commissioner and a close ally of Mayor/State Sen. Brian Stack. Sources say that Stack, a candidate for Hudson County Democratic Chairman in June, has decided to leave Sires out of the warette for now.
Sires endorsed Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise for re-election immediately following Stack, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, West New York Mayor Felix Roque and Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla announcing that they want a new county executive next year.
