The Republican Liberty Caucus has endorsed Steve Lonegan for Congress in New Jersey’s 5th District, support that will help Lonegan raise money in the primary and general elections.
“The RLC is excited to endorse Steve Lonegan for New Jersey Congressional District 5,” said Matt Nye, Republican Liberty Caucus National Chairman. “He is a fiscal conservative who has shown that he can get things done.”
Last week, Lonegan was added to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Young Guns “Contenders” list – the highest level for GOP congressional candidates.
A former mayor of Bogota, Lonegan faces former Cresskill councilman John McCann in the GOP primary to face freshman Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer.
“Steve’s time as Mayor of Bogota, New Jersey and his continued fight for the taxpayers of New Jersey has shown his dedication to fighting for fiscal restraint and limited government,” Nye said. “Candidates that follow through on their promises once elected are rare, and should be rewarded when they do so.”
Steve’s record on liberty:
– Wanted to force a private business to take down a sign he didn’t like, because it happened to be in Spanish
– Raised municipal debt and taxes 9 times
– Proposed raising taxes on 70% of New Jerseyians
– Used a homophobic slur against someone because of their faith
