Former Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) has joined the board of directors of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Malinowski ran the Washington office of Human Rights Watch and served as Assistant U.S. Secretary of State in the Obama administration before winning a House seat in 2018. He served two terms before losing last year to Republican Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield).
Also named to the board was Scott Carpenter, the managing director of Jigsaw and a Deputy Assistant U.S. Secretary of State under President George W. Bush.
“Scott and Tom bring decades of democracy and human rights promotion to the RFE/RL board of directors at a time when press freedom is increasingly under attack,” said Karen Kornbluh, the RFE/RL chair. “Their unique perspectives are invaluable as RFE/RL responds to Russian and Chinese censorship and malign influence by bringing trusted news to growing audiences. As the Kremlin’s full-scale war in Ukraine rages on, this mandate has renewed urgency.”
Malinowski recently joined the McCain Institute as a senior fellow.
There continues to be speculation that Malinowski will seek to regain his 7th district congressional seat next year.
