Tom Phillips, a political unknown seeking the Republican nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th district, has raised $9,219 in his bid to take on freshman Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Rocky Hill).

Phillips, a human resources executive from Scotch Plains, reported raising just $925 during the 3rd quarter of 2019 – perhaps an indication that his interest in a primary fight with Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean (R-Westfield) and former U.S. Senate staffer Rosemary Becchi may be waning.

The first-time candidates has spent $6,303 and has $2,915 cash-on-hand.

Phillips has put $2,569 of his own money into the race, including $500 on September 30, the final day of the quarter.
