Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) has stepped up his fundraising and has brought in $487,859 for his re-election campaign in New Jersey’s 10th district.
The three-term congressman has $93,418 in his campaign account as of September 30, according to a report he filed with the Federal Election Commission.
Payne, who could become chairman of an influential Homeland Security subcommittee if Democrats take control of the House, has also contributed $10,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and $2,000 to Mikie Sherrill, who is trying to flip the adjoining 11th district House seat of retiring Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen.
In 2016, Payne was re-elected with 86% of the vote against Republican David Pickney, running one percentage point ahead of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
