Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) continues to be a sluggish fundraiser, bringing in just $27,453 between March 1 and June 17 in one of the nation’s most heavily-Democratic congressional districts.
Payne continues to burn through his campaign cash, spending $51,874 during the same time period.
His campaign account is now down to $58,575.
Payne has raised $351,905 this cycle and spent $349,439.
Over the last three months, Payne contributed $5,000 to three of his out-of-state House colleagues. He paid his cousin, Eric Payne, $6,544 for is work as a campaign fundraiser.
Rutgers Law Professor Eugene Mazo, who is challenging Payne in the Democratic primary, raised $11,299 during the same time period and $40,520 total. He has $29,740 cash-on-hand.
Another Democratic candidate, public school teacher John Flora, raised a paltry $1,186, bringing his total haul this cycle to $14,025. That includes a $5,001 loan he made to his campaign.
Flora has $5,860 in his warchest. It’s not immediately clear of Flora will spend the rest of his money, or hold on it and then pay himself back after the July 7 primary.
Jennifer Zinone is unopposed in the Republican primary and has not yet reported raising any money.
