Norcross adds another $200k to campaign warchest in Q1

Neither Republican challenger has filed with FEC

Rep. Donald Norcross (D-Camden) raised $205,277 in the first quarter, giving him a significant financial headstart over his three major-party opponents, two of them Republicans and one a fellow Democrat. The four-term South Jersey congressman now has a campaign warchest of more than $2.7 million.

The lone Democrat who filed to take Norcross on in the Democratic primary is Mario DeSantis, a teacher who raised just $3,161 last quarter and has $1,980 left in the bank.

Republicans Claire Gustafson and Damon Galdo, meanwhile, have not yet filed reports with the Federal Election Commission or even submitted statements of organization, a sign that they haven’t yet opened campaign accounts. They could simply be late to file, but FEC rules also allow candidates who raise and spend less than $12,500 per quarter to bypass submitting regular financial reports.

Both because of the financial disparities and because of Norcross’s strong incumbency in a Democratic-leaning district, the congressman is not expected to be in significant danger in either the primary or general election this year. In 2018, Norcross beat two unheralded primary challengers with 84% of the vote, and in the 2020 general election he defeated Gustafson 63-37%.
